BROWNFIELDS REDEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Starting in 1998 Jacksonville implemented this program to encourage redevelopment and revitalization of Brownfield properties. Brownfield properties are abandoned, idled, or under-used properties where redevelopment can be complicated by real or perceived environmental issues. The purpose of this program is to offer incentives to businesses willing to take on the project of redeveloping one of these properties. By doing this business can receive reimbursement funds, sales tax exemptions, loans, and tax credits. Not only does this help businesses, but it also helps the community by cleaning up, increasing employment opportunity, and boosting the economic conditions of Jacksonville inner city areas. To qualify the business must be a for-profit operating as a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or a non-profit (501c3) corporation and the property to be redeveloped must be within the Brownfields zone.
