WORK OPPORTUNITY &
WELFARE-TO-WORK TAX CREDIT
These two programs were started to increase employment opportunities for specific individuals who are categorized within certain groups. The Work Opportunity Program is to help employ those who have trouble finding jobs like ex-felons and high-risk youths. This program has selected eight target groups and offers tax breaks for employers who are eligible.
The eight target groups are…
- IV-A recipients
- Veterans
- Ex-felons
- High risk youth
- Vocational rehabilitation referrals
- Summer youths
- Food stamp recipients
- Supplemental security income recipient
- Must get certified with the WOTC/WtW Unit
- Must employee worker for at least 120 hours
The Work-to-Welfare program is to help long-term family assistance receivers to re-enter the workforce. The business will qualify for a two-year tax credit if it meets these eligibility requirements.
- Must be certified by Agency for Workforce Innovation
- Must be long term Family Assistance recipient
- Family must have received assistance from AFDC/TANF for a minimum of 18 consecutive months.
- The 18 months must have started after August 5, 1997.
- They must also have had their AFDC/TANF eligibility expire under federal or state law after August 5, 1997 and must be hired within two years of eligibility expiration.
